Shield Mining Limited
Shield Mining Limited (ASX:SHX) is an Africa-focused gold and base metals explorer listed on the Australian Securities Exchange.
Shield currently holds four licences which cover a total area of 2,429km2 in Mauritania.
The flagship project is the Tijirit licence which hosts 6 prospects each of 1-2.5km strike length. These prospects are 35km SW of the Tasiast Gold Mine(producing 230,000 oz/annum) and have similar geology and characteristics (see plan below). A 3,275 metre drilling programme was completed in April 2009 on 3 of these targets. Following a successful rights issue raising $2.1 million in August, 2009, another drilling programme was completed in January, 2010, with results announced in February.
Shield also has a joint venture agreement on Saboussiri, consisting of two copper/gold properties in southern Mauritania for which it is the manager. Following an aerial geophysics program, Shield now has a drill ready copper target on this property.
Adjacent to the Guelb Mohgrein Copper/Gold mine owned by First Quantum, Shield has the Akjoujt property. A gravity survey was flown over this in February, 2010 and follow-up work has started.
